The Rajasthan University Women’s Association (RUWA), Jaipur, organised a special lecture on Thursday as part of the Women’s Violence Elimination Fortnight being observed from 25 November to 10 December 2025.
The theme of the programme, “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women & Campaign: Some Fundamental Dimensions,” was addressed by keynote speaker Prof. Asha Kaushik. She highlighted the challenges of gender-based violence and discussed essential aspects of women’s safety and empowerment. Prof. Kaushik noted that increasing digitalisation has created both new opportunities and risks for women, emphasising the need for collective societal responsibility to address these issues.
She also touched upon global and national initiatives, referring to major international frameworks such as the Global Digital Compact 2024 and the Cyber Crime Convention 2024, which aim to strengthen global cooperation in digital security and protection from online threats.
Speaking about India’s efforts, she highlighted the significance of government mechanisms such as Mission Shakti, the SHE Box for workplace sexual harassment complaints, and systems like ITSSO/I4C for combating cybercrime. She also underlined the importance of emergency support services including ERSS 112 and the Women’s Helpline 181.
RUWA President Prof. Amala Batra welcomed participants and emphasised the importance of collective action in eliminating violence against women. The event saw enthusiastic participation from RUWA members and the academic community.
The lecture aimed to spread awareness, encourage dialogue, and reinforce the message that violence against women is a violation of human rights and must be addressed through continuous effort.
